HUSKIE Craft Beer
HUSKIE was born from the curiosity of two nuclear medicine physicists, Jean and Miguel, who brewed in their garage before launching their brand in 2021. From Żurrieq, in the south of Malta, this microbrewery listed on the Maltese crafts register applies scientific rigour to American-inspired, bottle-conditioned beers: the generously hopped Alpha IPA, the single-malt, single-hop Mosaic Pale Ale, the easy-drinking Baby Face, and oak-aged experiments. Distributed in the bars of Valletta and across the archipelago, HUSKIE embodies Malta's young craft generation, driven by curiosity rather than convention.
Lord Chambray Brewery
The absolute pioneer of the Maltese craft movement, Lord Chambray opened its doors in 2014 in Xewkija, on the island of Gozo, driven by the Italian D'Imperio family. Proudly independent, the brewery produces more than twenty styles, from fresh lagers to full-bodied stouts, incorporating local ingredients along with vegan and gluten-free ranges. Its taproom at the Gozitano Agricultural Village lines up a dozen taps and offers guided tours and tastings in the heart of the Gozitan countryside. A multiple international award winner and ISO 9001 certified, Lord Chambray released Malta's first canned craft beer in 2023 and remains the craft benchmark of the archipelago.
Red Mill Brewing Co. / The Chapels
On the third level of The Brewhouse, the restored 1950 art deco Farsons brewery in Mrieħel, The Chapels marries industrial heritage with fresh beer. Its two vaulted halls, former wort-cooling rooms nicknamed 'the chapels', house the Red Mill microbrewery, whose 500-litre copper-clad kettles feed the bar directly: IPA, fruity pale ale, helles, amber ale, chocolate porter and seasonal brews signed by master brewer Konrad Degabriele, served exclusively on site. Between the self-pour tap wall, the vast rooftop beer garden and a generous kitchen, this gastrobrewpub has become one of the great landmarks of Maltese beer.
Simonds Farsons Cisk plc
Founded in 1928 in Ħamrun, Simonds Farsons Cisk is the first brewery in Malta's history and remains the brewing giant of the archipelago today. Born from the merger of the Farsons, Simonds and Malta Export Brewery houses, it brews the country's emblematic beers from its Mrieħel site: Cisk lager, omnipresent in Maltese bars, and Hopleaf Pale Ale, a direct legacy of the English tradition brought by the British garrison. Housed in a modern production complex at the heart of the Central Business District, Farsons embodies nearly a century of Maltese industrial history and remains the essential starting point for any exploration of beer in Malta.
The Brew Grill & Brewery
Opened in 2016 by the Tolok family on the Sliema Strand, The Brew Grill & Brewery is the benchmark brewpub of the Maltese waterfront. Its basement houses a microbrewery feeding the bar with around a dozen house beers, from light pale ales to imperial stouts, by way of an amber, refreshing Valletta lager and creations adapted to the island's climate. Indoors or on the large terrace facing the harbour, the American BBQ-inspired menu accompanies the tasting flights: unlimited chicken wings, ribs and grilled platters. A convivial address where you can watch the Manoel Island ferries come and go, a pint of freshly brewed beer in hand.
The Other Brewery Co. (TOBCo.)
Launched in spring 2025 in Marsa by Sebastien Bianchi, The Other Brewery Co. — TOBCo. for short — is the youngest player on the Maltese brewing scene. Fuelled by years of experience in London's thriving beer scene, the brand claims a simple philosophy: honest, balanced beers without fads. Its range revolves around a crisp lager, a helles, a silky hefeweizen and a generous NEIPA, distributed in cans and kegs across bars from Valletta to Mdina. Driven by a strong message of sustainability and local roots, TOBCo. embodies the craft renewal of the archipelago and is preparing to open its own taproom.
The Phoenix Brewers Ltd / Phoenix Raw Beer
Based in the Midland Industrial Park of Burmarrad, between Naxxar and St Paul's Bay, The Phoenix Brewers champions a singular approach on the Maltese scene: 'raw beer', a raw, unfiltered and unpasteurised brew sold directly from the brewery. This discreet microbrewery, listed by VisitMalta among the island's beer addresses, cultivates a low-key profile that appeals to enthusiasts seeking small-scale local production far from industrial circuits.
