Hiiu Õlle Koda
On the Kassari peninsula in southern Hiiumaa, Hiiu Õlle Koda occupies a handsomely restored grain dryer from 1885, now tavern, shop and beer museum in one. Here you can watch how a small Estonian brewery works and get hands-on with the islands' koduõlu farmhouse tradition, which this brewpub sets in dialogue with modern craft brewing. The museum hall displays old brewing equipment, while the tavern serves house beers and products from Hiiumaa's finest artisans, to take away or to savour through a soft Kassari summer evening. A cultural and gastronomic stop unlike any other in the Estonian archipelago.
Hiiumaa Pruulikoda
In the little island capital of Kärdla, on Vabaduse street, Hiiumaa Pruulikoda has opened a contemporary brewery-restaurant that gives Estonia's second island its craft showcase. The tanks stand proudly in the dining room and feed a range of lagers, ales and special brews happily built on local ingredients — down to blackcurrants from the island's gardens, which the brewery collects from residents for its fruited beers. Generous food, a relaxed vibe and fresh beer make it the meeting point for islanders and visitors alike, before setting off for the Kõpu and Tahkuna lighthouses or the wild beaches that made Hiiumaa's name.
