About this brewery
Founded in 1994, in the wake of restored independence, Užavas alus owes everything to the exceptional water of the Užava area, near Ventspils, which decided its location: the founder first built his house there, with a small brewery under the same roof. Success was such that a larger brewery opened in 2000, right next door. Still family-run, the house brews to German technology and standards unfiltered, unpasteurised lagers — Užavas Gaišais, Tumšais and the Baltic-tradition Winter — that have become cult favourites across the country. A pilgrimage on the Kurzeme coast, between the Užava lighthouse and the Baltic dunes.
