Ventspils

Ventspils District (rajons), located in Courland, was abolished in 2009; its centre was the city of Ventspils, outside the district. Its successor is Ventspils Municipality (novads, 2021), formed from the town of Piltene, several parishes and a rural community, with the city of Ventspils as its centre.

Breweries on the map

Užavas alus Founded in 1994, in the wake of restored independence, Užavas alus owes everything to the exceptional water of the Užava area, near Ventspils, which decided its location: the founder first built his house there, with a small brewery under the same roof. Success was such that a larger brewery opened in 2000, right next door. Still family-run, the house brews to German technology and standards unfiltered, unpasteurised lagers — Užavas Gaišais, Tumšais and the Baltic-tradition Winter — that have become cult favourites across the country. A pilgrimage on the Kurzeme coast, between the Užava lighthouse and the Baltic dunes. Užavas alus, LV-3627 Užavas pagasts, Lettonie
