About this brewery

In a wing of Traquair House, Scotland's oldest inhabited house, an eighteenth-century brewhouse lay dormant until Peter Maxwell Stuart, 20th Laird of Traquair, revived it in 1965 with its original equipment — including a copper purchased in 1738. Now run by his daughter Catherine, 21st Lady of Traquair, it remains the only brewery in the UK to ferment its entire production in two-hundred-year-old oak vessels. Its deep, dark ales — Traquair House Ale, the coriander-spiced Jacobite Ale, Bear Ale — age beautifully and are exported worldwide. Touring the house, brewery and museum is a journey through living brewing history.
