About this brewery
Karpenisi, which Greece nicknames its 'little Switzerland', lives on snow in winter, rafting and hiking in summer — and lately on beer: the Microbrewery of Evrytania brews here under the name Carpinus, Latin for hornbeam, the tree that fills the surrounding forests and the likely root of the town's name. With water from the Agrafa mountains, among the wildest in the country, it produces characterful beers built for après-ski on Velouchi, the stone bridges of Proussos and the grilled-meat tavernas of the plateau. A rare mountain address on the Greek brewing map, giving Central Greece's most alpine region its end-of-stage reward.
