On the organic farm of Old Allangrange, in the heart of the Black Isle peninsula near Inverness, Black Isle Brewery has been blazing the trail for organic beer in the UK since 1998. Certified barley and hops, a permaculture garden, beehives and B Corp certification: here, ecology is not a marketing line but the core of founder David Gladwin's project. The range runs from a crisp blonde to whisky-barrel-aged imperial stouts, best discovered on a brewery tour, in the farm shop, or at the brewery's own bars in Inverness and Fort William, where wood-fired pizzas and garden vegetables accompany the pints.
