About this brewery
Founded in 2011 in the fishing port of Akureyri, some 100 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle, Einstök Ölgerð brews with glacier water that flows down Mount Hlíðarfjall through ancient lava fields. Under brewmaster Baldur Kárason, trained in Edinburgh, the brewery has turned its Icelandic White Ale, Arctic Pale Ale and coffee-infused Toasted Porter into references exported worldwide — the best-known ambassador of Icelandic craft. At its tasting lounge in Akureyri, visitors can touch the malts, Cascade hops and birch-smoked barley before sampling the beers at their freshest, served Viking-style on wooden tasting axes.
