Corfu Beer

In Arillas, a seaside resort in north-west Corfu, the Kaloudis family has brewed English-style real ales since 2006 — a fitting legacy on an island that was once a British protectorate and where cricket is still played on the Spianada esplanade. Unfiltered and unpasteurised, the Corfu Special, Royal Ionian Pilsner and Bitter share taverna tables across the island with the local ginger beer, and every autumn the brewery hosts its own beer festival, now a fixture of the Corfiot calendar. A visit fits naturally between the beaches of Agios Georgios, Cape Drastis and the sunsets over Mathraki: the oldest and most emblematic of the Ionian breweries.
