About this brewery
When fisherman Ólafur Þröstur injured his knee, his wife Agnes Sigurðardóttir saw a TV report on Danish microbreweries and decided to open one in their village of barely a hundred souls on the Eyjafjörður. In 2006, Bruggsmiðjan Kaldi became Iceland's first microbrewery: Czech-tradition beers developed with brewmaster David Masa, unpasteurised, with no added sugar or preservatives, brewed with water from Mount Sólarfjall. The success of Kaldi Blonde let the project grow: brewery tours, a bistro, a hotel and, since 2017, Bjórböðin, the first beer baths in the Nordic countries, with fjord views and draught Kaldi within arm's reach of the tub.
