About this brewery
Founded in 1865 in the working-class district of Sarkandaugava, Aldaris is Riga's brewing grande dame and one of Latvia's oldest and largest breweries. Through the ages it passed from the Russian Empire to independence, from Soviet nationalisation to the Carlsberg group, and today pours golden lagers, pale ales and Baltic porters — including Mežpils Porteris with its coffee and caramel notes, a homage to the Baltic style par excellence. Its historic Tvaika iela site also houses the house's exclusive brews and the Aldara alus darbnīca, the workshop-museum that tells a century and a half of Latvian beer.
