Ægir Bryggeri

At the innermost tip of the Aurlandsfjord, an arm of the legendary Sognefjord, Norwegian Aud Melås and American Evan Lewis — a homebrewer since his teens — founded Ægir Bryggeri in 2007, named after the sea god who, according to Odin, brewed the best beer of the nine worlds. Their brewpub is among Europe's most spectacular: a dark-timber Viking longhouse with dragon heads and a nine-metre fireplace, voted Norway's best brewpub three years running. Steps from the famous Flåm Railway, you can sip the house IPA, Rallar Amber, Sumbel Porter or Heidrun mead, while the Viking Plank pairs five dishes with five beers. Since 2012, a modern brewery has carried Ægir across Norway and abroad.
