Winterbierfestival Leiden 2027: Dutch winter beers at Scheltema (date TBC)

On the last Sunday of January, Rembrandt's home town warms up with beer. The Winterbierfestival Leiden, expected for its tenth edition on Sunday 31 January 2027 (date to be confirmed by the organiser, following the last-Sunday ritual), takes over Scheltema, a 19th-century blanket factory turned cultural venue on the Lammermarkt, five minutes' walk from the station. The idea is that of a neighbourhood festival grown into a regional date: around ten small Dutch breweries, mostly from South Holland and the Leiden area, present their winter beers — dark bocks, quadrupels, spiced stouts and a few barrel experiments — served in tasting glasses to multiply the discoveries. The brewers staff their own stands and are happy to talk recipes, in an atmosphere of a heated hall, shared tables and typically Leiden gezelligheid. Entry around €15 with a glass, afternoon from roughly 1pm to 6pm. An ideal winter Sunday, easily combined with the city's museums and canals.
