Belgium Beer Week: a UNESCO-honoured beer celebration

In 2016 UNESCO added Belgian beer culture to its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, recognising not a product but a way of living with it: the glassware, the cafés, the brewing families, the abbey licences, the sheer variety. Belgium Beer Week exists to mark that recognition, and its seventh edition runs from 24 to 30 August 2026. The format is co-creation rather than a single site: participants organise their own events, and there are hundreds of them, in Belgium and also in the United Kingdom, Austria, Germany, Poland, Brazil, Hong Kong and South Korea. Bars, brewers and event hosts can register to take part. For visitors, the week functions as a distributed festival across the whole country, and a reminder that Belgian beer culture now has custodians well beyond its borders.
