Valmiera

Valmiera is a former district (rajons) of Latvia, located in Vidzeme; its centre was Valmiera. It touched Estonia to the north and Limbaži District to the west, Valka District to the east and Cēsis District to the south; Valmiera Municipality (novads, 2021) is its successor.

Valmiermuižas alus In the shadow of the tower of the old Valmiermuiža manor, on the edge of Valmiera, this brewery founded in 2009 has made slowness a manifesto: "slow" beers, brewed without haste, matured long and unpasteurised, from the golden gaišais to the tumšais with roasted malts, extending to house kvass and lemonades. The experience is built for the visitor: guided tours among Latvia's most popular, an adjoining beer kitchen marrying beer with local produce, a garden and seasonal festivities in the spirit of the manor fairs.
