Bear & Boar Brewery
In 2018, two friends founded the first craft brewery in Visaginas, the "atomic town" built for the Ignalina power plant and one of Lithuania's greenest. True to its motto "in collaboration with nature", Bear & Boar infuses its beers with the surrounding forest's resources — berries, pine, exotic fruit as counterpoint — around classics like its Baltic Pilsner, rounded out by an alcohol-free line. A victim of its own success, the duo opened in 2024 a brand-new, ultramodern brewery, among the best equipped in the country, which welcomes visits by arrangement. The bear brews, the boar picks the ingredients: the legend continues at the gates of Aukštaitija National Park.
Utenos Alus
In Utena, in the heart of lake-strewn Aukštaitija, stands one of the most modern breweries in the Baltics, built in the 1970s and now, alongside Švyturys, one of the two pillars of the Švyturys-Utenos alus group. The Utenos brand, ubiquitous in the country's bars and shops, spans golden lagers, wheat beers and alcohol-free versions in an approachable, polished style. The brewery itself is not freely open to visitors, but its beers are required tasting to understand Lithuania's contemporary brewing landscape — the industrial, popular counterpart to the farmhouse breweries of the neighbouring north.
