About this brewery
Gubernija is a monument: founded in 1665 in Šiauliai, it is Lithuania's oldest company and one of the oldest breweries in the world still in operation. Three and a half centuries of empires, occupations and rebirths have not interrupted its brews, which carry on Baltic tastes — amber lagers, strong beers, traditional kvass — in the country's fourth city, famous for the nearby Hill of Crosses. True to a habit rare in the region, the house runs its own pubs, where its output is best enjoyed up close. A major heritage stop for anyone exploring the Lithuanian beer road.
