Split is the seat of Split-Dalmatia County, on the Dalmatian coast, which has 16 towns and 39 municipalities. It includes the islands of Brač, Hvar and Vis, and the Biokovo range. Diocletian's Palace in Split has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
