Uusimaa (Nyland) is a region of southern Finland, on the Gulf of Finland, bordering Southwest Finland, Kanta-Häme, Päijät-Häme and Kymenlaakso. It has about 1.78 million inhabitants (2024); its capital is Helsinki, the national capital. It includes the Fortress of Suomenlinna, a UNESCO site.
