The Gunton Arms

A low road through deer park announces this inn before the signboard does: trees thin, red brick appears, and the pub suddenly feels more estate lodge than roadside house. It sits off the A149/Cromer Road between North Walsham and Cromer, reached most cleanly from the A140 via Roughton or from the A148 via Cromer. The last approach is narrow, wooded and slow, with on-site parking that is usually adequate but tight at peak Sunday lunch times; public transport is possible only with planning, and taxis from Cromer or North Walsham should be booked rather than assumed.
