Located in the Duin- en Bollenstreek, the “dune and bulb region”, Hillegom has around 22,200 inhabitants on 13 km² in South Holland. In 1722, the Amsterdam merchant Jan Six II acquired the local lordship and built a stone bridge over the Hillegommerbeek.
