Brest is a commune in the Finistère department in Brittany, a subprefecture at the tip of the Armorican peninsula. It has around 141,000 inhabitants on 50 km². The river Penfeld, which flows into the Rade de Brest, divides it, and the Château de Brest guards its mouth.
