Béziers is a French commune in the Hérault department (Occitanie), a sub-prefecture about ten kilometres from the Mediterranean. It has around 81,000 inhabitants on 95 km² and overlooks the Orb. The Canal du Midi crosses it, and the nine Fonséranes locks lift it by 21.5 m.
