Set on the right bank of the Rhine, at the southern foot of the Taunus, Wiesbaden is the capital of the state of Hesse and an urban district (kreisfreie Stadt). It had about 289,000 inhabitants at the end of 2024 and covers some 204 km². It borders in particular Mainz, Taunusstein and Eltville am Rhein.
