Pegnitz is a town in Bavaria, in the Bayreuth district (Landkreis) of Upper Franconia, about 30 kilometres south of Bayreuth. Located at the eastern edge of the Franconian Switzerland, in the northern Franconian Jura, it is the site of the source of the Pegnitz river. It had about 13,200 inhabitants in 2018.
