Murnau am Staffelsee is a market town (Markt) in Upper Bavaria, in the district (Landkreis) of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, some 70 km south of Munich, on the edge of the Alps, with the Staffelsee lake bordering it to the west. It had around 11,900 inhabitants at the end of 2023 and covers about 38 km².
