Görlitz lies on the Neisse, on the Polish border in the state of Saxony, and is the seat of the Görlitz district. The town had over 55,000 inhabitants at the end of 2024 and covers about 68 km²; since 1998 it has formed a "Europastadt" with Zgorzelec.
