The confluence of the Elbe and the Mulde lies within Dessau-Roßlau, an independent city (kreisfreie Stadt) of Saxony-Anhalt with more than 75,000 inhabitants at the end of 2024 and an area of about 245 km². It was formed by the merger of Dessau and Roßlau (Elbe) on 1 July 2007.
