On 1 July 2007, Bitterfeld, Wolfen, Greppin, Holzweißig and Thalheim merged to form the town of Bitterfeld-Wolfen, in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district of Saxony-Anhalt. It had about 36,600 inhabitants at the end of 2024, covers some 87 km² and lies nearly 25 km north-east of Halle.
