In north-eastern Baden-Württemberg, Bad Mergentheim is the largest town in the Main-Tauber district (Landkreis), on the Tauber river. It had about 24,000 inhabitants at the end of 2024 and covers some 130 km², with thirteen former villages incorporated between 1972 and 1975.
