At the entrance to the Schwarza valley, on the northern edge of the Thuringian Slate Mountains, Bad Blankenburg is a town in Thuringia, in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district, neighbouring Rudolstadt and Saalfeld. It had about 5,800 inhabitants at the end of 2024 and covers some 35.6 km².
