On the western shore of Lake Greifensee, in the Uster district of the canton of Zurich, Maur had about 10,900 inhabitants in 2024. The municipality covers 14.8 km² and rises from the lake to the summit of the Pfannenstiel, at 852 m, with villages including Ebmatingen, Binz and Aesch.
