At the south-western tip of Lake Geneva, where the Rhône leaves the lake, Geneva is the capital of the canton of the same name and the second-largest city in Switzerland. It had about 204,000 inhabitants at the end of 2022 and covers 15.93 km², between 369 m and 458 m.
