In the canton of Schwyz, on a plateau at an elevation of some 880 m, Einsiedeln had about 16,600 inhabitants in 2024. The municipality covers 99.1 km² and takes its name from the hermitage of Meinrad; Bennau, Euthal and Willerzell are part of it.
