Ostend (Oostende) is a Flemish coastal city on the North Sea in West Flanders (Belgium), about 20 km north-west of Bruges. It has around 72,800 inhabitants and covers 38 km². Fort Napoleon stands in the dunes, and the three-masted Mercator is moored there as a museum ship.
