Aalter is a Dutch-speaking municipality in the province of East Flanders (Belgium), between Ghent and Bruges. It has around 30,000 inhabitants on 120 km² and merged with Knesselare in 2019. The Bruges-Ghent canal crosses it, and a rococo castle stands in Poeke.
