In the south-east of Austria, north of the Drava, in the northern part of the Jauntal, at 462 m above sea level, Völkermarkt is the administrative seat of the district of the same name, in Carinthia. It had about 11,000 inhabitants on 1 January 2024, and its town rights date from the 13th century.
