In the eastern Glan valley, in central Carinthia, where the Wimitz and the Mühlbach join the Glan, Sankt Veit an der Glan is the administrative seat of the district of the same name. The municipality had about 12,300 inhabitants on 1 January 2024; the town was the capital of Carinthia until 1518.
