About this brewery
Mastri Birrai Umbri is an agricultural brewery in Gualdo Cattaneo, in the heart of Umbria's green hills. Founded in 2011 from an idea by Marco Farchioni, a lover of the German brewing tradition, together with his siblings Giampaolo and Cecilia, it extends the farming know-how of the Farchioni family, rooted in this land since 1780. Its distinctive feature is a complete "grow, transform, bottle" supply chain, with one of the largest microbrewery malthouses in Europe. Barley, wheat, spelt and local pulses such as lentils and cicerchia, grown on the estate's own fields, yield beers that are unfiltered, unpasteurised and bottle-refermented. The brewery and shop are open to visitors.
